Hello Everyone! As we get into our second full week of classes, I am sure by now we have also used some form of word processing software. Most people are familiar with Microsoft Word. However, due to some "file deleted" issues in middle school, it has never been my favorite. I have heard too many stories of nine page papers being deleted and unrecoverable. I have always preferred using Google Docs to draft my papers then I will transfer it to a word document for submission. I prefer Google Docs over word because it continuously saves the document to my google drive, ensuring I do not lose it and can access it from other devices.

The ISTE Learning Standard that is most meaningful to me is Leadership. I believe that anyone is capable of having leadership skills, especially as an educator. The standard intends for educators to pursue opportunities of leadership that will allow for increased student empowerment and growth as a direct result of improved teaching and learning. It also outlines how we can get there! By pursuing these leadership opportunities, we can collaborate to create a shared vision on how to maximize educational technology, identify means to ensure equitable access to educational technology and also developing new resources and tools that can be used for teaching and learning! This is the most important standard to me because I feel as though it incorporates all aspects of the other standards.

As we move forward in educational technology and our generation prepares themselves for the work force, we have been given the label of being "digital natives". This is a label that I could agree with as we got the name because we are one of the first generations to grow up with the boom of the internet and development of mobile technology. Our teachers are typically learning as they go with different forms of technology and different platforms. Where as students are usually more well-versed in whatever it is they are using and are typically already familiar with it. I would say that currently, teachers often waste valuable classroom time due to their unfamiliarity with whatever type of technology they are using that day, resulting in students missing out a bit. However, I can also say that in many cases technology has amplified the level of learning in a classroom. I anticipate we will be seeing more of the later with our generation of future students. However, with technology always developing, I would not be shocked if we see a pattern arise.

  1. Hey Victoria, I agree that microsoft word can have some bugs with saving, but just like google docs, you are able to have an auto save setting to keep your files secure! I also believe leadership is an important learning standard having your students listen and follow your instructions is very important.
